Why Blog?

I've taught Earth Science at the middle school and community college level for over 30 years. I've retired from teaching middle school now, but I still teach Earth Science at Waubonsee Community College as an adjunct instructor.

This blog is to explore my views on teaching Earth Science in general, and specifically from the perspective of a Geography background, as opposed to a Geology background. I'd like to generate some discussion on Earth Science teaching and it's importance in education. I have a friend who calls Earth Science "Science Lite". Earth Science is an important part of science education at all levels of teaching and I'll make the argument for that in this blog.

Good start. Keep the articles coming. I'm curious what sequence you'd teach Earth Science in from a geography perspective.

Earth Science is the study of the Earth and the Earth’s place in space.
ESC100 Survey of Earth Science Schedule (Geographical approach)

Introduction
Exosphere Astronomy
Atmosphere Meteorology and Climatology
Physical Geology Mineralogy, Petrology, Tectonics, Weathering Processes

Geographic locations are stressed throughout the semester as illustrations.

Text book used is: Earth Science, Tarbuck, Lutgens, and Tasa, 12th ed, 2009. I do not follow the order of the text (the geological approach, but I do cover all the material in 16 weeks.
